Get ready for the best Irish Happy Hour in town as the Fort Lauderdale St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival kicks off with an “Irish Party in Park” on Friday, March 10 from 4 – 7 pm at Huizenga Plaza, located at the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue in downtown. The free event will feature live bands, the traditional striping of the street, the longest céilí line dance, and more!
Join Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler at 4:00 pm for an event preview to find out what’s in store for the 2017 St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival. The preview will include the formal announcement and introduction of the Parade Grand Marshals: J. David Armstrong, Jr., President of Broward College; Dr. George L. Hanbury II, President/CEO of Nova Southeastern University; and Dr. John Kelly, President of Florida Atlantic University.
Highlights will also include a Blessing of the Street; recognition of event sponsors and committee members; and special appearances by a bagpiper and the “World’s Tallest Leprechaun.”
Then, Mayor Seiler will renew a legendary St. Patrick’s tradition when he paints a green stripe along Las Olas Boulevard to ceremoniously mark the route for Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Parade. Following the street striping, put on your dancing shoes and join us on Las Olas Boulevard for the longest céilí line dance, a traditional Irish dance that’s easy to learn and fun to do!
From 5 – 7 pm, live music takes over with performances by Celtic Bridge and the Fineans on the Huizenga Plaza main stage. Enjoy an Irish Happy Hour with $2 beers for folks in green!
